Gaia was born and raised here on Mount Desert Island, just down the street from Whistle Pig farm. She graduated from MDI high school in 2011 and went on to get her bachelors degree in Equine Science from the University of New Hampshire. Upon receiving her degree, Gaia traveled to the horse capital of the world, Ocala, FL, to be a working student under an FEI dressage rider. Gaia has also worked for Becket Family services at a residential facility for at risk youth here in Maine. At Becket, Gaia's role was to develop an equine assisted therapies program for residents that allowed clinicians to achieve therapeutic goals for clients. This past winter Gaia spent two months in Portugal working as an assistant in a classical dressage facility and lusitano breeding farm. Gaia continues to ride and take lessons - her favorite aspect of equestrianism is that there is always room for growth and improvement in horsemanship. She is thrilled to have the opportunity to cultivate an equine community here on MDI, and looks forward to the summer and possibilities that await at Whistle Pig Farm.
